Profile Prof. K.V. Thomas, Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Food & Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs.







Prof. K.V. Thomas took over on 28th May, 2009 as Union Minister of State in the Ministries of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India.
Sixty-two years old Prof Thomas has spent the last 35 years of his life in active politics. Besides representing Ernakulam in Kerala Assembly and the Lok Sabha, he has served as Minister of Fisheries, Tourism and Excise in Kerala Government for 4 years (2001-2004). He is known for a large number of initiatives taken by him for promotion of fisheries and tourism in the State.
Earlier as an academician, Prof Thomas taught chemistry and was Head of Chemistry Department in the Sacred Heart College,Thevara, Kochi, Kerala. He has held positions in a number of public organisations in Kerala and outside.
